"Analytical Study of E-Learning Platforms"
Abstract:
As technology moves forward and the explosion of the internet, the world has become a much smaller place. While new technology provides the convenience of accessing an increasing amount of information and learning without regard to time or location. E-learning is a widely learning in the world, and there are many people were enrolled in several programs at several universities. So, many colleges and universities were used this type of learning, some of them used a wide model to deliver their programs, others use their special model and the others try to translate most of programs from traditional learning to e-learning. In the last few years many new e-learning platforms have been developed, but how we can compare the different e-learning platforms, and on what bases to choose the best one?

Our study try to find the best definition for distance learning and e-learning, and determine the relation between them. By retrieving the famous definitions for distance learning and e-learning we find that the learners and instructors are separated by space but not necessarily by time. And the learner must use a computer and network to gain and access the materials and interact with instructor through new communication technologies specially Internet.

We also presents the comparison results of most popular eight e-learning platforms which are widely implemented at many universities worldwide, the comparison based on their features, after studying the eight e-learning platforms features we could classified these features into three main categories which are: learning tools, management tools and development tools. Then we studied the eight platforms regarding to the availability of the studied features, as a result, we could determine the best platform in case of features availability. This done after reviewing all features and classified them into two types which are essential and optional features. This help us to generate mathematical equations that presents us a scientific method to evaluate e-learning platforms.

Finally, after implementing the generated mathematical equation on the eight candidate platforms, as will as some statistical tests, we get that the best two platforms are WebCT Campus ed.6 and Blackboard6 since they owned most optional features
